ERA test (Endometrial Receptivity Analysis)
The ERA test (Endometrial Receptivity Analysis) can check whether a woman’s endometrium has the right genetic profile to allow implantation. The test checks receptivity of the endometrium.
By standard, an embryo transfer will happen on day 2, day 3 or day 5. At that time, the endometrium is ready to allow implantation. Until now, this was checked by measuring the thickness of the uterine endometrium via vaginal ultrasound. The ERA test checks whether the endometrium is also molecularly receptive to implantation at that time. If it is not, the ideal time to transfer an embryo can be calculated for an individual woman. Embryo transfer can then be done at the right time for this woman, based on her individual result.
Studies were done in patients with recurrent implantation failure, which is those with good quality embryos (at least 3 failed embryo transfers <37 years), a normal uterus and a normal endometrium. An abnormal implantation window was found in 20% of these patients.
